Iron mineral dynamics in soils and sediments - A short film about the IRMIDYN project

Have you ever heard that organisms breathe iron? Watch our short film to learn about our new approach to study iron mineral dynamics in soils and sediments in the field.

The ERC-funded research project IRMIDYN (Iron mineral dynamics in soils and sediments: Moving the frontier toward in‐situ studies) has been a major part of the work conducted by the Soil Chemistry Group since the project’s start in 2018. Recently, Prof. Ruben Kretzschmar and his team worked with independent Filmmaker Markus Tischner (external pageFrisbee Medien, Germany) to produce a 14-minute outreach film about IRMIDYN. The film, released today on Youtube, shows the team’s research activities in the laboratory and at one of the field sites in the German Wadden Sea. It explains their new approach to study iron mineral transformations in soils and sediments and the relevance for understanding biogeochemical cycles.
