Soil Science at Scientifica
Soil Chemistry was represented at Switzerland’s largest Science Festival, Scientifica, with fun for young and old.
The Soil Chemistry Group was actively involved in Scientifica, the science outreach event hosted by ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, billed as Switzerland’s biggest Science Festival. The two day event offered a great opportunity to speak with members of the public and discuss the impact of our research with the wider community. Teaming up with soil science colleagues from other research groups, we particularly highlighting our work on iron mineral transformations in soil and the interactions of rice roots with soil. Highlights included watercolour painting with iron oxide minerals, and a demonstration of timelapse photography of rice plant root growth. Thanks to Xu Fang, Luiza Notini, Maureen Le Bars and Simin Li for organising the information stall, and spreading the word about the research that we do.
