Ruben Kretzschmar has received an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) for his project “Iron mineral dynamics in soils and sediments: Moving the frontier toward in-situ studies” (IRMIDYN). In this project, new approaches to investigate iron mineral transformations in-situ in soils and sediments will be developed and applied in the field. This will provide novel insights into the cycling of iron and other elements in the environment, and will also have implications for contaminated site remediation, corrosion, archaeology, and other fields. The project will involve 2 postdocs and 4 PhD students, positions which will be announced soon. The project will start in Fall 2018 for a period of 5 years. A major success at the European level!
